Anime Series Review: Le Chevalier D’Eon

  • Studio: Production I.G
  • Number of Episodes: 24
  • Year(s) ran: 2006-2007

Basic Plot Summary: Set in mid 18th century France, D’Eon de Beaumont, the protagonist and knight of King Louis XV, investigates his sister’s mysterious death that leads to the faint trial of a secret organization plotting the destruction of the French monarchy.

Review: All you history nerds out there: this one is for you guys. For those who are not too familiar with the French Revolution, I would recommend for you to brush up on some of the it’s history, as well as of the events simultaneously taking place in neighboring countries, to understand and fully grasp the setting and ambiance the anime is trying to create.

Enthralling storyline, intense story and character development, beautiful renditions of famous historical buildings and sites, the mixing between historical and fictional characters and events were perfectly blended-I swear, this anime virtually has no flaws.

Overall Rating: 5/5

Nerd Love: Production I.G produces some of the best animes out there (Ghost in the Shell S.A.C., Patlabor, FLCL), history majors would have a field day with some of portrayals of the historically-based characters and events…not much notable nerd love, unfortunately

I completely agree with your review of this anime…it is stunning both visually and emotionally. They did a fantastic job at portraying a compact storyline through actual events with added fantasy elements while keeping the realism and accuracy of the majority of the historical figures and politics that were occuring. I just adore it and wish that it had a larger fanbase, it gets overlooked when it should be one of the top animes in my opinion! I would assume people would be drawn to it if they like Black Butler-you know, that one has an insane fanbase who I think would also like this very much because of the dark elements this story contains.
